Your heart and entire cardiovascular system is constantly under pressure. Day in and day out, through physical activity, stress and just about anything else that raises your heart rate, your heart never takes a break. Sleep is the hearts only reprieve, slowing it down enough to reduce the stress to it and any inflammation in your body. Without sleep, you can accumulate high levels of "inflammatory markers," that are directly linked to heart disease and strokes.
As if that wasn’t a good enough reason to make sure you are getting enough sleep every night, sleep can also help keep blood pressure and cholesterol levels in check.
