Your Mental Health Affects Your Sleep More Than You Thought

Whether you're feeling down, or the best you've ever felt, you know how important sleep is to you. Not only can a bad night of sleep cause you to feel horrible for the rest of the day, but that negative day can become a difficult cycle to get out of. Sometimes it really feels like your emotional health and your sleep are against each other, with a negative mental health day coming from a lack of sleep, and a lack of sleep coming from negative mental health. Studies actually found that less sleep can lead to less positive emotional thoughts and feelings, leaving more room for negative ones.

It may seem impossible to get better sleep with the cycle working against you, but we can recommend some sleep habits and things to do throughout the day that may help to improve your sleep night by night.

Talk to your doctor- before taking any of our recommendations, see your doctor. Like we said, sleep is important, and your doctor can get you the help you need.

Have a bedtime- We know, you aren’t a kid anymore. But having a schedule you stick to every night can be a great way to get into a better rhythm, and not to mention, get better sleep.

Wind-down- Whether you need ten minutes or an hour, setting out time before you get into bed to relax can be a great way to feel more refreshed when you wake up. We also recommend avoiding blue light during this time.

Exercise- It doesn’t have to be a full workout unless you want it to be. Doing something to get your body moving is great to get those serotonin levels up and get a more fulfilling sleep.

Make your bed more comfortable- Whether it’s the too soft pillow or that one rough stop in the mattress, you can always improve your sleep set up for the better. We got you covered.
