So far there has been no scientific proof that a weighted blanket can help with these mental health disorders. Anecdotally, they have helped some people get better rest since the extra weight provides a sense of calm such as receive a warm hug. It is thought that the extra weight of the blanket helps release melatonin the sleep hormone. Others think that it also helps release dopamine and serotonin which are the happy hormones while decreasing cortisol which is the stress hormone.
