Building a Nightly Routine (Part Two)

Previously, we began discussing the importance of having a nightly routine and began with ideally having electronics shut down two hours before bed. In this second part, we will continue discussing important steps to consider when building your nightly routine to help ensure you get a restful night’s sleep!

Make sure you are setting up your environment to be as comfortable as possible for your rest. This usually means keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. Many also make use of white noise to help relax and calm down. Similarly, relaxation techniques can be incorporated before bed such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, journaling, or mindfulness can help calm the mind and prepare the body for sleep.

It is important to make sure all of your daily to dos are wrapped up or you have an established plan on how you are going to tackle the next day. Planning and worrying can lead to a more restless evening so writing down notes or thoughts can be extremely helpful in freeing your mind from worry. At the end of the day, making sure your mind and body are calm are the best ways to ensure you can get the most out of your sleep in terms of time and quality. So do what works for you!
