We are discussing high tech smartphone apps and wrist watch technology that are developed to help monitor your sleep patterns.

We have already learned that the devices that use just a sensor to track movement can not accurately distinguish when you are in light, deep, or REM sleep. However, how do the trackers with heart rate monitors fair?

Unknown. There is no published data yet on this, but they do not track muscle tension or eye movement, which are huge components in understanding sleep.
