Building a Nightly Routine (Part One)

Often we can find ourselves in periods where it is difficult to fall asleep and we want to find a way to naturally fall into a peaceful slumber. One of the best ways to do so is to develop a schedule or routine before you even lay down! In this first part, we will begin to discuss the benefits in crafting a nightly routine and why it is important.



It is important to preface how critical sleep is in making sure we perform optimally everyday. Most adults need between seven to eight hours to operate with clarity so getting enough sleep is important! By establishing a nightly routine, it helps signal to your body that it is time to wind down and prepare for a restful night’s sleep. It establishes a consistent sleep-wake schedule if you wake up at around the same time as well, improving sleep quality and promoting physical and mental well being.


To start, ideally you should limit use of electronics up to two hours before bed. The blue light emitted by screens can interfere with the production of melatonin as well as making deep sleep more difficult. It all starts at the beginning!
