Don't Lose, Snooze! How Much Sleep Do You Need?


From high school until just recently I've survived, and might I even say thrived, on 5-6 hours of sleep a night. Then AP classes turned into college courses, which blossomed into a fruitful work schedule. And while what I did changed over time, the amount of time I slept did not. I think many of you can relate to this especially if you are a parent.

However, while we might convince ourselves that we have "gotten used to" the little sleep that we do get (while chugging coffee to perk up sluggish feet), the fact of the matter is that it is a medical necessity to get about 8 hours of sleep.

Sleep is the time when the brain heals itself and processes what happened during the day. This is when events are stored into long term memory and when you are preparing for the next day. With this in mind, if you snooze you DON'T lose. Quite the opposite actually.
